GLENN HUGHES Preparing To Write New Rock Solo Album
November 16, 2011Legendary bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, TRAPEZE, BLACK SABBATH, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION) will spend December and January writing material for his next solo album. He says, "There is a fire inside like never [before]."
In a recent interview with IHeartGuitarBlog.com, Hughes stated about his forthcoming solo CD, "I'm really thinking about making a Glenn album early next year. It's been four years since I entered the studio for 'F.U.N.K.', but my hat now has been very much thrown into the rock ring. What I will do on the next Glenn album, is portray the image of the Glenn Hughes on the BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION albums. Because it's the same Glenn that was in DEEP PURPLE, really. The classic rock iconic Glenn that, let's be clear, the majority of the fans want. The 'F.U.N.K.' album was very well recorded and I love the songs, but that's for a cultured audience and a different kind of audience. It's more of a cult audience, if you will. But my audience now with BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION and a lot of my fans are rockers, man, so it's time to rock. So the next album will be a rock record."
Hughes' latest solo CD, "First Underground Nuclear Kitchen (F.U.N.K.)", received its official North American release on October 7, 2008 via Blistering Records through Ryko/Warner distribution. The CD came out in Europe in May 2008 via Frontiers Records.
Produced by Glenn in Los Angeles, after countless hours spent writing in his home studio, "F.U.N.K." was another magnificent statement from the "Voice of Rock." "It is a roots album, it is a true account of my musical heritage but also fearless and multi-dimensional," Hughes said shortly after the CD's release. Once again all drums on the record were played by none other than the great Chad Smith of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, while Luis Maldonado took care of the majority of the guitars (JJ Marsh and George Nastos only appear on two songs each) and Anders Olinder is on keyboards (with Ed Roth guesting on three songs).
